Formed in 1961, the Hatters were the first women's basketball team in England and have grown into one of the most successful women's sports clubs in the UK. Founder member Betty Codona OBE, the first lady of English basketball, coached over 500 National League games, a record for any English coach, and won 40 national titles before retiring in 2009. Betty passed away in March 2022, but her legacy remains the driving force behind the club.
Our Super League Basketball team is the pinnacle of the club, and many of our players have gone on to play elite basketball abroad. Head Coach Vanessa Ellis, the most capped person to play and coach for Great Britain, leads a squad that blends youth and experience, and we strive to be at the top of the league every season.
